Gilbert H. "Gib" Krause

Gilbert was a veteran

Gib was born May 17, 1921 in Eagle Point to Ruth (Triester) and Ernest Krause. He was the sixth child in a family of ten. Gib served in the U.S. Army as a mess hall cook during WWII and served overseas duty in the Philippines. While stationed at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, he met Frances Mitchem, who was serving in the Women's Army Corps. They married on September 16, 1944 in Jackson, Mississippi.
Gib worked for many years at the Northern Center for the Developmentally Disabled. But of all the jobs he ever had, he loved his work as a gravestone engraver at Johnson Monument the most. He enjoyed parades and fairs, playing cards and going fishing, collecting stamps and singing. He shared his lovely tenor voice with the Chippewa Falls Male Choir, Our Saviour's Lutheran Church choir and many sing-along sessions at Wissota Springs. Gib was a charter member of Christ Lutheran Church and he was part of the crew who built the church, including engraving the cornerstone.
