Making your wishes known will give you peace of mind knowing your plans will be carried out.
Your family will have less to worry about when the time comes. We have never had a family say they were sorry that their loved one had pre-arranged their services. Survivors are relieved that their loved one has taken this worry from them.
It is not necessary for you to fund a pre-arrangement. Conversely, you have the option of pre-funding without pre-arranging. However, setting aside funds to cover funeral expenses relieves your family from that burden.
There are several options available for pre-funding:
- Bank trust (monies are put in an interest-bearing account in your bank*)
- Insurance funded (monies are put in an interest-bearing insurance policy*)
- Assignment of an existing insurance policy
All three options can be handled by our funeral directors at Pederson-Volker. We will sit down with you to discuss which option suits you best.
*It is important to note that the above options are interest-bearing accounts in order to cover inflation.
Medical Assistance/Medicaid Recipients
A very important benefit to pre-funding is that an irrevocable pre-funded funeral trust is not considered an asset when applying for medical assistance. The money is safe and can only be used for final expenses at the time of death.
Our funeral directors understand and are well-versed in handling medical assistance funded services. We work closely with the State of Wisconsin Medical Assistance Program, as well as Community Health Partnership, to ensure those eligible receive benefits towards funeral expenses.
