Heaven gained an angel when Ada J. Brain, of Chippewa Falls, passed peacefully into the arms of our Father on Saturday, December 24, 2016 at the age of 89.

Ada was born June 27, 1927 in Perry, Utah, the fourth of eight children born to Pearl (Davis) and Theodore Cutler Nelson. She was baptized exactly eight years later on June 27, 1935. Two weeks after Ada's birth, her mother suffered a lifelong incapacitating stroke, so Ada was raised by aunt Geneva Sorenson until age 15. At that time, she returned home to an unfamiliar family.

She graduated from Box Elder High School in Brigham, Utah, class of 1945, and worked several places including Bushnell Military Veterans Hospital and Greyhound Bus Lines. Her favorite occupation was childcare for Ross and Mill Langworthy, so when they purchased the Cottage Caf on Western Ave. in Eau Claire, Ada travelled with them as a nanny and future waitress. In 1947, Ada met Robert Newton Brain and they married on October 25, 1950 at the First Methodist Church. Together they had two children, son Dennis and daughter Carolyn.

Ada served as a cook and confidante at Korger Chestnut Grade School in Chippewa Falls for 25 years and was involved in a myriad of volunteer activities: Den Mother, the Chippewa Falls Police Dept., American Heart Association, Fruitcakes, and Homemakersthis all before the beginning of a ten year career at the Chippewa Manor as a receptionist and volunteer extraordinaire.

Ada was a charter member at Christ Lutheran Church in Chippewa Falls and was active in their Women of Life group. She was an excellent cook and worked for many years managing funeral lunches for the ladies aide at Christ Lutheran.

She is survived by her son, Dennis (Darlene) Brain; daughter, Carolyn (Alan) Volrath, all of Chippewa Falls; grandsons, Jason (fiance Kelly Amundson) Brain of Rice Lake, Jeremy (Joanne) Brain of Las Vegas, Nev., Matthew (Lisa) Brain of Minneapolis, Minn., Eric (Kristin) Volrath, Nathan (Katie) Volrath, all of Chippewa Falls; great-grandchildren, Victoria, Elijah, Aidan, and Anneliese Brain, Abbigail, Peyton, Alex, Elijah, and MacKenzie Volrath; a sister and Ada's lifelong soulmate, Janice Johnson of Brigham City, Utah; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Robert in 1996; two children in infancy; five brothers, Martella, Boyd, Russell, Denny, and Bobby Nelson; a sister, Wanda Sebek; and her special friend and supporter, Fred Mueller.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, December 28 at the Chapel of the Resurrection at the Chippewa Manor, with Rev. Robert Hoekstra officiating. Private interment will take place at a later date at Prairie View Cemetery, village of Lake Hallie.

A visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m.., Tuesday at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the Chippewa Manor Chapel.

Memorials in Ada's honor may go to the Chapel of the Resurrection at the Chippewa Manor.
