Bernard Johnson

July 28, 1937 — January 30, 2018

Bernard D. “Burnin’ Bernie” Johnson, 80, of Bloomer, formerly of Chippewa Falls, died Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Country Terrace Assisted Living in Bloomer.

He was born July 28, 1937 in Medford to Agnes (Bittner) and John Johnson. He grew up in Stanley and graduated from Stanley High School in 1957.

On November 14, 1967, he married Patricia Hahm at Trinity UMC in Chippewa Falls. They later divorced, but remained friends.

Following high school he moved to Chippewa Falls and was employed at Packerland Dairy, Lee’s Carpet Service, Presto Industries and then was a custodian at Zion United Methodist Church in Chippewa Falls.

Bernie will be remembered for helping around the city of Chippewa Falls. He would help at the high school by collecting and stacking the pallets for the Chi-Hi Homecoming bonfire each year, hence the name, “Burnin’ Bernie”; he swept the gymnasium at basketball games between periods; and he cleaned under the bleachers at football games. He also could be seen directing traffic downtown if events were going on or just walking around town.

He is survived by his son Perry (Deb) Johnson; a daughter Lisa (Craig) Boos, all of Chippewa Falls; three grandchildren, Abby and Kaiden Boos, and Maranda Steinmetz Robey.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Shirley Radman.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, February 2 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls with the Rev. Robert Hoekstra officiating.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
