Betty J. James, 88, of the village of Lake Hallie, Chippewa Falls, died Monday, June 26, 2017, at Atrium Post Acute Care of Chetek.

Betty was born March 16, 1929 in Chicago, IL to Herbert and Syrene (Powers) Kasten. She was raised in Chicago until age 5 when her family moved to Stanley, WI. In 1947 she graduated from Stanley High School.

On September 6, 1947, she was united in marriage to Walter F. "Wally" James and they moved to the village of Lake Hallie, where she currently resided. Betty was employed at UW Eau Claire, Huebsch Laundry, and babysat for over 28 years.

Betty is survived by her son, Craig James of Eau Claire; sister, Penny Kasten of Chippewa Falls; grandchildren, Stacey Davis, Jessie (Vicki) James, Lisa James, Tina Goulet and Angel (David) Olson; 14 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wally in 1997; daughter, Vicki James in 2015; and brothers, Charles and Bobby Kasten.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, with a visitation beginning at 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Rev. Jim Woldhuis will be officiating. Interment will be in Prairie View Cemetery, Village of Lake Hallie, Chippewa Falls, WI.
