Caroline Marks

Caroline Rose Marks, 94, of Chippewa Falls, passed away Sunday, November 5, 2017 at the Chippewa Manor while under the care of St. Joseph's Hospice.

She was born January 27, 1923 to Oreste and Alessandra (Bargdella) Bonazza in Euclid, Ohio. She graduated from Euclid’s Central High School in 1941. Caroline married John “Jack” Gummerson on January 19, 1943 in Owen, Wisconsin. Together, they had three sons, Noel, Robin, and Kurt Gummerson. Jack preceded her in death in 1962. She then married Carl Marks on October 14, 1966 and they had a son, Lee Carl Marks.

In her earlier working years, Caroline proudly worked as a fashion merchandiser at the May Company in Cleveland, Ohio. She enjoyed working in the fashion industry and always had her own sense of style, which she maintained her entire life.

Caroline most recently was a foster grandparent in the Chippewa Falls Area Unified School District through CESA 10, and previously a secretary at Chi-Hi. She touched the hearts of all the students and adults she encountered. Over the years, Caroline enjoyed playing bridge with many dear friends. She belonged to the Secular Franciscan Order and is a member of St. Charles Borromeo Church in Chippewa Falls. She also was the former president of the Owen American Legion Women’s Auxiliary. Memories of her positive outlook on life and love for others will continue to be cherished by family and friends.

She is survived by her son, Lee Marks of Chippewa Falls; grandchildren, Rodney Temple, Kelly (Jeromy Beck) Gummerson, David Gummerson, Mandy (Andrew) Lindberg, and Daniel Gummerson; precious great-grandsons, Drew and Preston Lindberg; and her cousin, Bruno Bonazza of Italy.

Caroline was preceded in death by her parents; siblings; husbands, Jack Gummerson and Carl Marks; and sons, Noel, Robin and Kurt Gummerson.

A memorial Mass will be held at 12 p.m., Friday, November 10 at St. Charles Catholic Church, Chippewa Falls with Msgr. Michael Gorman and Fr. Frank Corradi concelebrating. A rosary recited by the Franciscan Order will take place at 10:30 a.m., Friday at the church. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service at noon, Friday at the church.

Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Withee.
