David S. Engel

David S. Engel, 58, of Birchwood, formerly of Chippewa Falls, died Monday, December 22, 2025, as the result of a snowmobile accident.

He was born February 28, 1967, in Chippewa Falls to Eugene and Beverly (Hagestad) Engel.

Dave grew up in Chippewa Falls and graduated from Chippewa Falls High School. For many years he drove a milk truck for the family business, Engel Trucking. His knowledge of motors and trucks (the bigger the better!) led him to his own excavating business.

In 2017 he moved to Birchwood where he owned and operated Red Rock Campground and Pub. After selling the campground and Pub in 2022, he worked with Rusk and Sawyer Counties maintaining their ATV trails to ensure others could enjoy them as much as he did.

Dave was the most fun-loving, kind, and generous man who would give you the shirt off his back. He was incredibly hardworking with a great business sense. David cherished his friends and family, especially his gal, Louret, and his son, Devin. He knew how to work hard, but he also knew how to stir up some fun. He would want us all to live life to its fullest and to keep the party going.

Dave is survived by his partner in crime, Louret Broecker of Birchwood; son, Devin Engel of Ashland; siblings, Randy Engel, Kathy Peterson, Jeff Engel, and Pam Arneson (Bruce); Devin’s mother, Darlene “Doll” Sonnentag; along with many nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and infant daughter, Miranda.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls. A memorial service will follow at 12 p.m. with Rev. Aaron Sturgis officiating. Interment to follow at Prairie View Cemetery in the village of Lake Hallie.

A celebration of life will be held in Birchwood, WI at a later date.
