Donald Furst

Donald Joseph Furst, 79, of Chippewa Falls, died peacefully, surrounded by family, at Sacred Heart Hosptial in Eau Claire on Sunday, February 25, 2018, following a long illness.

Donald was born on July 11, 1938 to Lillian (LaCour) and Frank Furst in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. He graduated from McDonnell Central High School in 1956, and married Diane Krohn on September 12, 1959. Don was employed at Consolidated Thermoplastics, Peters Meats Products and Pevan Transfer and Storage. In 1974, he joined the Chippewa Falls Fire Department, and he served as a firefighter for the city until his retirement in 1994.

Don’s hobbies included fishing, gardening, jigsaw puzzles and photography. He loved to play the lottery and was excited to be a Wisconsin Lottery Super Cash winner in 1993. Don always enjoyed spending time with his children, their families and their pets.

Don is survived by his wife of 58 years, Diane; their three daughters, Julie (Daniel) Bowe of Elk Mound, Tammy (Robert) Boeger of Stratford, WI, and Lisa Sullivan of Chippewa Falls; one brother, Robert (Barbara) Furst of Chippewa Falls; two sisters-in-law, Jeanie (Robert) Marek of Cadott and Sandy Furst of Chippewa Falls; one brother-in-law, Donald (Ethel) Krohn of Motley, MN. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Blanche Krohn of Chippewa Falls; former son-in-law, Kelly Sullivan of Bloomer; four grandchildren, Alex (Courtney) Boeger of Stratford, Kelsey Boeger of La Crosse, Sydney Boeger of Stratford, and Shane Sullivan of Bloomer; he is also survived by twelve nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law, Walter Krohn; brother Francis Furst; and his sister, Esther (Melvin) Olson.

The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 2, 2018, at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, 44 E. Columbia Street, with a visitation one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Fr. Justin Kizewski will be officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Chippewa Falls.
