Eunice Gloria (Olson) Maier, 87, of Jim Falls, WI, passed away on Friday, September 4, 2026, at Dove Healthcare Bloomer, surrounded by loved ones.
Eunice was born on September 13th, 1938, in rural Dunn County, WI to Martin and Esther (Pederson) Olson. She graduated from Colfax High School with the class of 1956. On May 10th, 1958, Eunice married the love of her life, Cal Maier. The two started a family and had the first three of their six children while living away from western Wisconsin.
In 1966, Cal realized his lifelong dream of buying a dairy farm, and the couple moved close to his parents in Anson Township. Eunice and Cal had three additional children after moving to the farm. For several decades, Eunice was by Cal's side on the farm, helping him build his business in whatever way she could. She and Cal raised six children who were very involved in many activities with school, 4-H, FFA, and the church. No matter what her family was involved in Eunice was right there behind them, coaching and cheering them on. Family was very important to Eunice, so she tried to make them feel special. She baked and decorated beautiful birthday cakes for all her children and sewed special occasion dresses for her girls. She especially enjoyed baking with all her grandchildren, teaching them to make family favorites like lefse.
Eunice was a member of Jim Falls United Methodist Church, where she was very active in the United Methodist Women (UMW), serving as an officer for many years. Eunice could usually be found in the kitchen of the church, serving for luncheons and organizing dinners and doughnut fry fundraisers. Eunice was a 4-H leader for many years, serving on the local, county and state levels. She was always very involved in the community and an active member of numerous organizations, especially those supporting youth. In their later years Eunice and Cal very much enjoyed activities with the Wisconsin Master Farmers.
In the late 1980's, like many farm wives of the era, Eunice went to work off the farm. Eunice started working at a daycare center, then at a necktie factory, and finally as a supportive homecare companion. She enjoyed each of her jobs and the many people she got to work with. Eunice deeply loved her family. She cherished time spent with her sisters, children, and grandchildren, as well as other family and friends. She and Cal made friends everywhere they lived and continued those friendships for many, many years.
Eunice is survived by her children, Tammy (Duane) Knuth, Tom Maier, Shari (Kevin) Polzin, Steve (Janet) Maier, Mary Maier-Abel (Steven Abel), and Tim Maier; her grandchildren, Katie (Ervin) Tuschel, Kent (Samantha) Knuth, Kari (Dennis) Helfert, Kyle (Jessica) Polzin, Kole (Courtney) Polzin, Tyler (Emily) Maier, Alissa Maier, Jacob Maier, Taylor Abel, and Tommy Abel; her great-grandchildren, Arabella, Ervin, CallilJo, Autumn, Drake, Abram and Arthur; along with many other beloved family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cal Maier; her parents, Martin and Esther Olson; her parents-in-law, Wesley and Mary Maier; her sisters, Lillian, Rose, Nancy, Marlene, and Etta; and her granddaughter, Miranda Abel.
The Visitation for Eunice will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2026, at the Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, 44 E. Columbia St., Chippewa Falls.
The Funeral Service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2026, with a visitation one hour prior to the service at church. Rev. Mary Messmer will be officiating. Eunice will be laid to rest in Copp Cemetery in rural Jim Falls, WI.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Dove Healthcare Bloomer Nursing Home and the staff of Heartland Hospice for the care and compassion provided to Eunice throughout her stay.
