SERVICE:

Goldie M. (Olson) Gunderman, 92, of Chippewa Falls, passed away peacefully and courageously at her home on Wednesday, March 16, 2016, after a recent cancer diagnosis.

Goldie was born on May 1, 1923 in Dallas, Wisconsin to Thomas and Janettie (Johnson) Olson. She was baptized and confirmed at the Dallas Lutheran Church and graduated from Prairie Farm High School in 1941. She was united in marriage to Herbert J. Gunderman on February 5, 1946 and together they celebrated 50 years of marriage.

Following high school, Goldie lived briefly in Chicago where she worked at the Brach's Candy Factory after which she was employed in the dietary department at Luther Hospital (Mayo Clinic Health System) in Eau Claire. Early in their marriage, Herb and Goldie farmed and started their family. While raising her children, Goldie was a homemaker and provided well for her family. She later retired from the Rutledge Home for the Aged. She was a dedicated wife, mother and friend to many. Mom enjoyed studying the Bible - her faith in God was exemplary and never wavered. Her steadfast guidance, encouragement and fierce love will be sorely missed - indeed the greatest friend we ever had. "Well done, good and faithful servant." Matthew 25:23

Goldie is survived by her children, Judy Novak of Chippewa Falls, Tom (Pat) Gunderman of Wausau and Jeanne (Ray "Smokey") Rykal of Eau Claire; grandchildren, Debra (Rod) Larson of Colfax, Andrea Clarke (Mike Miller) of Madison, Chelsey Gunderman of Wausau, Erica Rykal (Sam Schretenthaler) of Madison and Jonathan Rykal (Brooke Atha) of Gainesville, Georgia; great-grandchildren, Ryan and Jacob Larson and Leela Miller. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends.

Goldie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herbert; sister, Geneva Olson; brothers, Omar, Norman and Truman Olson; grandsons, Aaron Rykal (in infancy) and Michael Larson; friend, Dan Paff; and brothers and sisters-in-law.

Goldie's family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Reynaldo Maniquiz and Michelle Monson of HSHS St. Joseph's Hospice for their care and guidance throughout this period. Additional thanks are extended to those who remembered Mom in prayer, shared cards, phone calls and visits during her final days.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, March 21 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Chippewa Falls with Rev. Paul Oppedahl officiating. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery, Chippewa Falls.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m., Monday at the church.

Should memorials wish to be shared at this time, please consider performing acts of kindness and love in Mom's memory.
