Janice Evelyn (Hanson) Wirth, 83, of Chippewa Falls, died peacefully on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield, WI.
On December 31, 1942, Janice was born to Harold and Bernice (Broker) Hanson at Greenwood Maternity Home in Barron, WI. She had one brother, Roger. Janice was baptized, confirmed, and married at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Almena, WI. She attended Yellow River grade School and Barron High School graduating with the class of 1961. On June 16, 1962, she married Richard Wirth and moved to Eau Claire. They had two children, Terry Allen and Lynda Marie. Over the years, the family enjoyed camping and taking many motor coach trips. She retired from Sacred Heart Hospital after 32 years.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 62 years, Richard; brother, Roger (Nancy) Hanson; granddaughter, Chelsea and her dad, Glenn Whelan; in-laws, Lorin and Eleanor Wirth, Carol and LeRoy Whitman, DeWayne Wirth, Victor (Jean) Wirth and Gerald Wirth; along with uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends.
Janice is survived by her son, Terry (Jeanna) Wirth; daughter, Lynda Whelan of Chippewa Falls; grandchildren, Andrew (Courtney) Whelan and Taylor (Caroline) Henke of Milwaukee, Jessica Wirth of Sierra Vista, AZ, Hannah (Pat) Cole of Bloomer, and Ashley (Travis) Pierce of Chetek, WI; great-grandchildren, Brett, Akeelah, Ellisia, Reagan, Elena, Braden, Hadley, Kolton, Kylie, Payton, Raelynn, Casen & Ember; and her sister-in-law, Sally Wirth of Clear Lake.
The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 13, 2026, at Faith Lutheran Church, 733 Woodward Avenue, Chippewa Falls, with a visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Pastor Mark Neumann will be officiating. The interment will be in Prairie View Cemetery, Village of Lake Hallie.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or Faith Lutheran Church.
