Jill S. Mertens

Jill Suzanne Mertens, 77, of Chippewa Falls, passed away peacefully in her home on January 15, 2024, surrounded by her family after many long and hard fought health battles.

She was born July 25, 1946 in Eau Claire, WI, to John “Jack” and Irene (Tellstrom) Clark. She grew up in the Seymore area where she had many cherished memories with her brothers, cousins, and friends.

She graduated from North High School in 1946. After, she worked at Landy’s and Presto before purchasing a tavern in 1977. She owned and operated Parker’s Place – renamed Jill’s on the Hill- for 29 years, 2 months, and 10 days before retiring in 2006.

Jill married Patrick Parker in 1969. After divorcing she met and married the love of her life Edward Mertens in 1990.

Jill enjoyed traveling, the Green Bay Packers, mowing her lawn, baking, and cooking. But, most of all, she loved helping people. Her home and business were always open to anyone who needed a helping hand or a hot meal. Her friends and customers all became part of the family.

She also enjoyed helping the community in any way should could. Jill partnered with the local elementary school to sponsor children and families for the holidays, purchase school clothes and supplies, and bought up every candy bar and Girl Scout cookie the kids were selling. Jill wanted to make sure everyone was always taken care of regardless of who they were.

Jill is survived by her husband of 33 years, Ed; children, Donny and Lisa Parker; stepchildren, Amy Rehm and Jason Mertens; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many other loving family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Irene; and brothers, Ralph, Dale, and Calvin Clark.

The family would like to give a special thank you to all of Jill’s friends who were able to see her and help the family over the weeks preceding her death.

And a thanks to St. Joseph’s Hospice, who provided exceptional care and compassion to Jill over her final days.

A time for gathering will be held from 4-7 p.m., February 5, at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel. 44 E Columbia St., Chippewa Falls. Interment will be at a later date at Rest Haven Gardens in Eau Claire.
