John Anthony Rokser “Jack”, 79 of Chippewa Falls, died on Tuesday, August 18, 2026. Jack was born April 12th, 1947, to John and Elizabeth (Klaus) Rokser in Ashland Wisconsin. He attended primary schools in Ashland and Ondossagan Wisconsin, and moved with his family to Aurora, Minnesota where he attended high school. After one year at Virginia Community College, he was invited by the US Army to serve in Viet Nam, where he was discharged from in 1968. He then attended UW-Superior where he was active in the Vets Club and worked as a manager in the student union. He met his wife Karen at UW-Superior, and they were married in 1972. They then moved to Eau Claire so he could continue his education at UW-Stout. He graduated with a Master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling in 1974 and began his 30-year tenure at Fall Creek Public Schools as the Middle and High School Counselor. While at Fall Creek he led many student trips skiing, sailing, camping in the Boundary waters, white water rafting, and canoeing the Brule River. He retired in 2003.
Jack was a man of many interests. He was an avid golfer and worked at Lake Wissota Golf Course as a starter/ranger for many years. He was the golf coach at Fall Creek for several years. Jack loved to snow ski and cross-country ski and did The Birkie and Korteloppet a few times. He loved to hunt, especially with his son and grandson. He loved going on the ATV trails. He also loved being on his sailboat on Lake Wissota and being part of the Lake Wissota Yacht Club, where he served as Commodore, Beach Master, and Social Chair at various times. And many canoeing and kayaking trips were made on the Brule River, where he loved to flyfish.
Jack was a member of English Lutheran Church of Bateman, where he was currently serving as president of the church council. He was serious about our mission to serve our neighbors and spearheaded a contribution and workday for Sleep in Heavenly Peace in September – giving beds to children in our area that are sleeping on the floor. Jack loved to sing and joined the church choir for their centennial celebration. But his wife had to tell him, in the words of his high school choral teacher “Bring it up John”, as he couldn’t read music and sort of roamed around until he found a note he liked.
He also volunteered with Hope Village, a local organization, to assist the unhoused. He participated in the local Chippewa Valley Indivisible because he felt strongly about preserving our democracy.
Jack is survived by his wife, Karen; sons, Phillip (Missy) of Wisconsin Rapids and Daniel (Allison) of Council Bluffs, Iowa; grandchildren, Zikomo, Zachary, Jensen, Quinn, Liam, and Bode. He is also survived by his sisters, Donna (Dean) Effinger, Patricia (Patrick) Gastonguay; his brothers, Dennis (Nancy) Rokser, Robert (Cyndi) Rokser, and Jim (Peg) Rokser; sisters-in-law, Anita (Bill) Maki, Janice (James) Nord; and brothers-in-law, Albert (Ellen) Nord, David, and Thomas (Barb) Nord; along with many nieces and nephews and friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elizabeth Rokser; his in-laws, Albert and Elsa Nord; his sisters-in-law, Sherry Nord and Dana Nord; and his brother-in-law, Paul Nord.
The funeral service will be held at English Lutheran Church of Bateman on Wednesday, August 26th, with visitation beginning at 10 am and the service will begin at noon. Pastor Justin Arnold will officiate. A private inurnment will occur at a later date. A reception will follow the service at Lake Wissota Golf Course.
