Larry C. Wyss

November 9, 1948 — February 6, 2024

Chippewa Falls

Larry Wyss, 75,  passed away peacefully on February 6, 2024, after a 5-month battle with lung cancer.

Larry was born on November 9, 1948, to Carl and Marion (Mattison) Wyss in Eau Claire, WI. Shortly after graduating from Menomonie High School in 1966, Larry bravely served his country as a paratrooper in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War.

He served in the 87th Fighter Interceptor Squadron or “Red Bulls”, and developed lifelong friendships and a deep sense of duty and sacrifice during his military service. He displayed courage and dedication to his fellow soldiers, and earned several decorations including the NDSM, VSM, AFCM, AFGCM, and RVCM.

After his time in the military, Larry returned home to Menomonie and married Mary Turri in 1972. Larry and Mary were blessed with four children. After their marriage dissolved, Larry moved to Superior where he pursued his bachelor’s degree in Sociology at UW-Superior.

Larry married Linda Lee St. John in 1984. She tragically passed away two weeks later from lung cancer. Larry continued his career in hospice until retiring in January of 2023. Larry had a passion for helping people and serving people at the time of their greatest need. He made regular donations to several charities.

In September 2023, Larry was revered on the Honors Flight. The Honors Flight went to and from Washington D.C. in a day to allow veterans to visit the memorials. Larry was overcome with how respectfully he was treated with a water salute, greetings of cheer by younger generations, and a mail call. This trip truly brought him tremendous joy shortly before his diagnosis. He had also traveled to Vietnam several times, Hawaii, and sailed a Caribbean cruise.

Larry is survived by his sister, Peggy Timm; niece, Mandy (Daniel) Stasiek; nephew, Troy (Jamie Bowe) Timm; great nephews, Coy and Cade Stasiek; extended family members, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Marion Wyss; his beloved wife, Linda; brother-in-law, Mark Timm; and great nephew, Cam Stasiek.

Larry Wyss will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His commitment to our country and his concern for those who needed help are truly inspiring.

A celebration of Larry's life will be held at Central Lutheran Church in Chippewa Falls on February 24, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chippewa Valley Veterans Tribute in Larry's honor.
