Linda L. Chapek

Linda Lou Chapek (nee Sweitzer), 87, of Jim Falls, passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at Meadowbrook at Bloomer, while under the care of St. Croix Hospice.

She was born in Chippewa Falls, WI to William and Marie Sweitzer on February 11, 1939. She attended Chippewa Falls schools and graduated in 1957.

She married her high school sweetheart, Dennis Chapek, on March 29, 1958. They moved to the family farm near Jim Falls, WI where they farmed for nearly 35 years until Dennis’ death in 1992. She then moved to Lake in the Hills, IL in 1994 to live with her daughter’s family where she helped care for her grandchildren. She lived there for 17 years before moving back to the Chippewa Falls area where she remained until her death.

Linda was preceded in death by her husband Dennis; an infant son William and an infant daughter Denise; three brothers-in-law, Renald Chapek, Jerald Calkins and Bob Taylor; a sister-in-law, Patricia Sweitzer; and nephews, Robert Graham and Gary Calkins. Her sister, Mary Calkins, also passed on July 15, 2026.

Linda is survived by a son, Michael Chapek of Cornell, WI; a daughter, Sherri Kunschke (Mike) of Plano, TX, and a son, Daniel Chapek (Anastasia) of Johns Creek, GA; a brother, John Sweitzer and three sisters, Marty DeMoe (Greg), Connie Welter and Barbara Taylor; two sisters-in-law, Faye Hedrington (Everett) and Hattie Chapek; her grandchildren, Jim, Chris and Aaron Hetchler, Jon and Max Chapek, Elisabeth Falkenthal, Melissa and Amanda Kunschke, and Gregory and Zachary Chapek; her fourteen great-grandchildren; and her dear friends, Joan and Tim Sommerfeld.

Linda enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, cross-stitch, knitting, ceramics, and playing 500 rummy, solitaire and bingo. During her years on the farm, she sold many of her ceramics, including nativity sets for two churches. She also made many of her family’s clothes over the years. In her later years, she particularly enjoyed putting together puzzles and coloring mandala and other pictures. She gifted her family and many friends with pictures that she lovingly colored.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Monday, July 20, 2026, at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls. There will be a private family graveside service at a later date.
