Loren L. Mastin, 67, of Chippewa Falls, died Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.
He was born January 1, 1951 in Eau Claire to Ralph and Loretta May (Erickson) Mastin. His parents were proud of the fact that he was the first baby born in Eau Claire County in 1951. He grew up in Chippewa Falls and graduated from Chi-Hi, class of 1969.
He served honorably in the U.S. Navy from 1970-1976 and was stationed in San Diego.
On May 22, 1971, Loren married Nancy Otterdahl in Eau Claire. Upon Loren’s discharge from the military, the couple moved back to the Chippewa Falls area, where Loren worked for Cray Computers, and later for SSI-Supercomputer Systems Inc. While working full-time, he went back to school and earned a degree in accounting, first an Associate’s Degree from CVTC, then a Bachelor’s Degree from Lakeland College. He then went to work as an accountant for United Way in Eau Claire.
Loren was a man of many interests and kept active in his community. He was a dedicated member of Central Lutheran Church, where he was formerly involved in the church council and in the worship band. He was a Big Brother with the Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization and had two little brothers, Elijah and Nick. He enjoyed singing, and was a member of the Chippewa Falls Senior Center Music Makers and the Madrigal Singers from Lake Holcombe. He volunteered for Chippewa County by providing rides to those in need; was a past member of the Chippewa Falls Moose Lodge; was active in the Meadows Condo Association where he lived; and was the neighborhood “Fix-It” man. He was a talented woodworker, was an avid Packer and college football fan, loved to fish and enjoyed games of any kind. He also enjoyed travelling, as Nancy fondly remembers the camping trips they took to National Parks in their van...complete with an airbed in the back! He adored his family and cherished time spent with them.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy of Chippewa Falls; a daughter, Kelly Mastin of Minneapolis, MN; a son, Joshua (Stephannie) Mastin of Virginia Beach, VA; grandchildren, Matthew Dengler and Mackenzie Mastin; siblings, Hazel Stagliano of Kenosha, Ellen (Jack) Wendt of Lake Hallie, James (Gretchen) Mastin of Pinedale, WY; sisters-in-law, Lena Mastin of Las Vegas, NV, Ruth (James) Hart of Turtle Lake, Mary Brantner of Chippewa Falls; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ralf Mastin; and two brothers-in-law, James Stagliano and Rudy Brantner.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, January 17 at Central Lutheran Church, Chippewa Falls with the Rev. Aaron Sturgis officiating. Military honors provided by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council will immediately follow the service at the church. Interment will be at a later date at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.
