Marjorie May Hakes

Marjorie May Hakes, 85, of Chippewa Falls, received her wings on June 6, 2025.

She was born July 15, 1939, in the town of Anson to Irvine and Elsie (Black) Hakes.

Marg spent her younger years helping her family on their farm in Anson. She graduated from Chippewa Falls High School and began a career as a CNA, then moved to Surgery Tech at St. Joe’s Hospital where she worked for 37 years. She lived on the family farm and took care of her parents.

Marg made sure she attended all the Hakes family gatherings and enjoyed playfully teasing. She would send birthday cards to her nephew, Chuck, and enclose a list of things she needed help with at the farm. She moved to the City of Chippewa Falls about 10 years ago. If you had seen Marg out and about you would definitely comment on her walker, she also decorated that for every season with flowers and seasonal trinkets. As she aged, she counted on her niece, Sue (Chuck), to bring her supplies. Marjorie was always very appreciative of everyone who helped her. She would brag to everyone about her great-nephew, the Sheriff, and joke that he was coming to arrest her.

She loved to get together with her friends for lunches and card playing, birthday club, church gatherings and craft shows. She pampered herself every Friday with a trip to the Twirl In Beauty Shop to get her hair done. No one could do her hair as well as Debbie. For many years Marg taught Sunday School at Anson United Methodist Church.

Marg spent a majority of her time from a young child through her passing with her special cousin and best friend, Beverly Hager. She kept in touch with her cousin, Jerry Black, in Oregon, he helped to fill her days chatting on the phone. She was blessed to have a close group of lifelong friends and neighbors to whom she adored dearly.

Marjorie is survived by her brother, Joe Hakes; niece, Monica (Tom) Kloss; nephews, Chuck (Sue) Hakes, Dave Hakes, Dean (Susan) Hakes, Lee (Holly) Hakes; great-nieces, LaRaye, Emily, Iris and Ava Hakes and Le Tessa Eckwright; great-nephews, Mike, Mitch, Travis and Taylor Hakes and Levi Eckwright; great-great-nephews and nieces, Dom Sly, Quin Eckwright, Porter Hakes, Adi Eckwright, Nevaeh Sly, and Braylon Eckwright.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, Irvine and Elsie; brother, Lawrence; and sister-in-law, Arlene.
