Mary L. Pagenkopf, 92, of the town of Wheaton, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2025, at Mayo Clinic Health System – Eau Claire.
Mary was born in Eau Claire on August 31, 1932, to Arthur and Naomi (Patterson) Stewart. She grew up in the town of Wheaton and attended Prairie View Elementary School and High School in Eau Claire. She worked at the National Presto Ammunition plant
On November 29, 1952, she married Walter Pagenkopf at Truax Congregational Church in the town of Union. After selling the farm to their son, Jeffrey, in 1990, they built a home on part of the land and lived there for many years.
Mary was an active member of Big Elk Creek Lutheran Church, volunteering her time with the WELCA and quilters group. In her spare time she enjoyed traveling, reading, and crocheting, making many prayer shawls for friends and family.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Joe) Kouba-Prewitt of Chippewa Falls; sons, Jeffrey (Marie) and Jim (Cindy) Pagenkopf, both of rural Elk Mound; 3 grandsons, Tom Kouba (Amy Doman), Brady (Tonya), and Dalton Pagenkopf; 2 granddaughters, Kayla (Nick) Perkovich and Miranda (Nate) Stowell; 4 great-grandsons, Jack and Carter Kouba and Weston and Walter Pagenkopf; 6 great-granddaughters, Raylee Kouba, Kairi Gasner, Naomi and Elizabeth Stowell, and Emalie and Eliana Perkovich; grand-daughter-in-law, Ann Kouba; sister, Una Burich; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter in 2006; grandson, Mike Kouba; 4 sisters; 3 brothers; and nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on July 30 at Big Elk Creek Lutheran Church in Elk Mound with Rev. Hal Schroetter officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Interment will be at Big Elk Creek Lutheran Cemetery.
The family would like to extend a thank you to the doctors and staff of Mayo Clinic Health System for their wonderful support and care for Mary and her family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
