Norma Frenette

August 21, 1930 — April 8, 2018

Norma R. Frenette, 87, of Chippewa Falls, died Sunday, April 8, 2018 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire surrounded by her family.

She was born August 21, 1930 in Knapp, Wisconsin to Martha (Tietz) and Albert Olson. The Olson Family moved to Chippewa Falls when Norma was 9 years old so that her father could start his own business. Growing up Norma often enjoyed working with her family at their cafe and later at Olson's Creamland Dairy. She graduated from Chippewa Falls High School in 1947.

Norma continued her education at UW-River Falls where she earned a degree in teaching. She taught at Pleasant Hour, a one room school house in Hallie, WI. On December 30, 1950, Norma married Donald Frenette at Central Lutheran Church, and they resided in Chippewa Falls. Norma was dedicated to raising her five children and supporting her husband in his many business endeavors including the Dairy Queen, The Flame Motel & Restaurant, and The Northern Wisconsin State Fair.

Of the many hats that Norma wore, her favorite was that of mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved nurturing, teaching, and supporting her family by being involved in their school activities as well as serving on PTA boards. Norma was happiest when she was surrounded by her family and together they enjoyed the family traditions that she had created.

Norma was a devoted member of Central Lutheran Church; was an active member of Chippewa Falls Jaycettes; and was a talented seamstress and quilter, creating special quilts for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Don of Chippewa Falls; five children, Richard "Rick" (Lynette) of Hugo, MN, Dean (Patti), Julie (Paul) Nelson, Paul (Becky), all of Chippewa Falls, Jenifer (David) Dunn of Eau Claire; 11 grandchildren, Shannon (Brad) Beaumont, Joshua Frenette, Jason (Selena) Frenette, Jessica (Eric) Henry, Andrew (Nicole) Nelson, Michael (Colleen) Nelson, Emily (Cameron) Cooper, Kyle Frenette, Daniel (Angela) Frenette, Carter and Abigail Dunn; 7 1/2 great-grandchildren, Riley, Madison, Charlotte, Waylon, Braxton, Griffin, Nora and one due in July; two sisters-in-law, Lorraine Olson of Oshkosh, Joanne Olson of Chippewa Falls; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Stanley, Howard, Raymond and Gordon Olson; and two sisters, Lorraine Devine and Elfreda "Fritz" Burich.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, April 13 at Central Lutheran Church, Chippewa Falls with the Rev. Aaron Sturgis officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery, Chippewa Falls.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Thursday at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls and one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.

Because of Norma's love for children and for her church, her family requests that any memorials be designated to the Central Lutheran's Park Camper-ship Fund, for children to attend church camp at Luther Park.
