Patricia Johns

Patricia Anne Camp Johns, of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2026, after battling cancer. She was 74 years old.

Patricia (known to her loved ones as Pat or Patty) was born on August 18, 1951, to Roswell and Anne Camp. She grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and was the youngest of four siblings. She joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints while living in Missouri in her early twenties. After serving a Spanish-speaking mission for the church in San Diego, California, she moved to Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, where she met her husband, Raymond Johns.

Patricia married Raymond on May 19, 1979. They settled in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and welcomed their first child the following year. Pat’s most valued role in life was that of a mother; she cherished the opportunity to have two more children, and later five grandchildren. Patty loved teaching kids. As a young mother, she taught her kids about gardening and enjoying nature. She was a cub scout den mother to her sons’ cohorts, and in that role she herded two bunches of rowdy young boys through the program, and often included her daughter in the younger son’s scout activities, too. All of her children and many of their childhood friends learned how to whittle from her- some may even still have the small wooden arrow they made in the process. Later in life, she enjoyed teaching her grandchildren about art, and as recently as a few weeks ago was teaching two of her grandsons how to add depth to their drawings by shading.

Patricia has been an active member of the LDS Church since she first joined as a young adult. She served her church in myriad ways, but notably spent years teaching children on Sundays and helping adults with genealogy research - a skill she learned long before computers made quick work of family history research. Pat spent many hours studying microfiche records from a bygone era, tracing her own family lines as far back as the 1400’s and helping others learn to do the same.

Pat had a life-long love of art - she flourished in many creative hobbies across multiple mediums. She saw beauty in the world around her, and took inspiration from life to create her artwork. In her early life, she learned drawing and painting, and studied art at UWEC. In her later years she became interested in photography, participating in a monthly photo club, and took up needlepoint and cross-stitching. She cross-stitched beautiful quilts for many of her friends and family members- a labor of love that often took months of daily work to complete.

Patricia also loved to write; you’d be hard pressed to find a better pen pal than Patty. She spent many hours every week corresponding with her loved ones. She didn’t expect you to reply - she just quietly checked in on friends and updated them on her life and the goings on in her neck of the woods. She also loved her little dachshunds over the years, and kept them happy with a warm lap and perhaps a little more human food than strictly advisable.

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents; three stillborn brothers; and two sisters-in-law, Peggy Reidenbach and Susan Camp.

She is survived by her husband, Raymond Johns; her three children, Raymond (Sandra) Johns, James (Vanessa) Johns, and Melinda (Jared) Walther; her 5 grandchildren, Eleanor, Nicholas, Finley, Daxon, and Roswell; and her three older siblings, John (Michele) Camp, Rozanne (Tom) Anderson, and Stephen (Colleen) Camp.
