Robert D. Hoover

Robert D. Hoover, 92, of the town of Eagle Point, died Sunday, May 3, 2026, at Mayo Clinic Health System – Eau Claire.

He was born, March 6, 1934, in the town of Anson to Vilas and Arlene (Schwetz) Hoover. He graduated from Chippewa Falls High School in 1952.

On October 10, 1953, he married Joanne Visser at First Presbyterian Church in Chippewa Falls. For 30 years Robert worked at Zutter Elevators, and the next 40+ years he worked for the Chippewa Falls School District as custodian and outdoor maintenance, retiring at age 90. When he was not working, Robert enjoyed gardening and building his cactus collection in his greenhouse. He always had a dog at his side and loved them dearly.

Robert is survived by his son-in-law, John Ray of Chippewa Falls; grandchildren, Julie (Jeff) Ray of Winter, WI and Jerry (Becky) Ray of Westby, WI; 3 great-grandchildren; special fur companion, Sophie; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joanne in 2011; daughter, Joanne Ray in 2014; and brothers and sisters.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, May 8 at Prairie View Cemetery, village of Lake Hallie.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to donor’s choice.
