Steve John Heidtke, born August 16, 1961, was called to his heavenly home on May 17th, 2026, after a long 3 + year battle with neuro degenerative conditions. His medical conditions were not diagnosed until December 2024, but he was symptomatic early in 2023. Over his illness journey, he needed 24/7 supported care in varying degrees, and his sister became his guardian, caretaker, and manager of all his affairs.
Steve is survived by his sister, Trudy Heidtke Sturino; his nephews, Joseph (Kathy) Sturino, Thomas Sturino, Peter Sturino, and Daniel Sturino; great-nephew, Joseph Sturino Jr.; sister-in-law, Chris Ranschau and Emma (Mir) Ranschau Heidtke. He has two adopted children, Sophia and Jeffrey Heidtke. He leaves other extended family and friends with memories of their times together.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Betty Lou Heidtke; as well as older brothers, Jeffrey and Jerold Heidtke.
Steve was known for his adventures and many hobbies including motorcross racing, skiing, cycling, boating, hunting, cars, and anything DIY. He was active in many groups, AMA, PSE fraternity, Harriers, NRA, and Bald Eagle Hunt Club to name a few. Steve took his passion for mechanics to graduate with an engineering degree from UW-Stout, lead manufacturing teams, earning multiple certifications, and received his master’s at UMN. He mentored younger people in tools and technology and taught in the engineering program at his alma mater for many years, consulted in different industries and had his own engineering websites that were discussion forums for problem solving and working out complex manufacturing issues.
In lieu of flowers, please consider registering as an organ and tissue donor. While Steve was unable to be an organ donor due to his time on hospice, this was his wish. You can register or donate to The Maddog Strong Foundation, which is supported by the Heidtke family. Their annual event is June 27th, 2026, and can be viewed on their website, www.maddogstrong.org
Steve’s life will be celebrated from 9 to 11 am on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Pederson Volker Chapel, 44 E. Columbia St., Chippewa Falls, with a service beginning at 11 am, followed by the interment in Prairie View Cemetery, Village of Lake Hallie.
