Our Heavenly Father has given us a new Guardian Angel, calling our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, Thomas “Tom” H. Schmidt (76) to his side. Granting him eternal life on Thursday, March 5th, 2026, surrounded by his loving wife of 56 years and family in the comfort of his home.
Born May 19, 1949, to Henry and Merita (Bowe) Schmidt in Chippewa Falls, he attended holy Ghost in Chippewa Falls and graduated from Chippewa Falls Senior High School with the class of 1968. He married the love of his life Peggy Kummer, on May 10th, 1969.
Tom loved hunting and fishing at their cabin in Dairyland. He took pride in his yard looking nice and admiring his flowers. He was a handyman and enjoyed watching Western films, and his favorite Goldrush tv series. He also loved visiting his grand fur babies.
He worked at Amoco for 28 years, also drove semi for Tom Lemke, Charles Bresina, and Jeff Hilger. In his golden years, he worked part time at Gold Cross and lastly, Express Mart. Tom could visit with anyone and always ran into someone he knew. He always had a joke or story to tell.
Tom is survived by his wife of 56 years, Peggy; daughter, Carrie Phelps; sons, Brad Schmidt and Andy (Kelly Jo) Schmidt; grandchildren, Austin Schmidt, Mekenna (Jaron) Johnson, Hannah Crandall, Hailey Crandall, Kendren (Emily) Gullo, Kaein Gullo, Brooklyn Phelps and Devin Phelps; great-granddaughter, Eislee Schmidt; brother, Dennis (Diane) Schmidt; along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry & Merita Schmidt; in-laws, Cletus & Helen Kummer; brothers-in-law, Howie Boiteau, Dave Goettl, and Jim Crandall; sisters-in-law, Sharon Crandall and Betty Boiteau; great-nephew, Michael Boiteau; special aunt & uncle, Bob & Dorothy Turner; along with many aunts and uncles.
The memorial service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Central Lutheran Church, 28 E. Columbia St., Chippewa Falls with Pastor Aaron Sturgis officiating. There will not be a visit prior to the service.
A Celebration of Life will follow the service from 1 to 4 p.m. at Horizon’s Bar, Grill & Event Center, 10764 County Hwy Q, Chippewa Falls, WI 54729.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Annie & Keisha at St. Croix Hospice, as well as his cousin, Rod Turner and granddaughter, Mekenna Johnson for all their loving care given to Tom.
